Margaret Tucker Hostel provides supported crisis accommodation services and support to young Aboriginal women and children aged 15-18 years who are experiencing homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The hostel was named after Margaret Tucker MBE, a respected leader and activist for Aboriginal rights.

Margaret Tucker, or Aunty Marg as she was affectionately known, was one of Australia’s earliest female Aboriginal activists. Her optimism and unflagging work ethic helped fuel a movement that won rights once considered unimaginable for Aboriginal people in Victoria and around Australia.

Aunty Marg was born at Warangesda Mission in New South Wales in 1904 to William Clements, a Wiradjuri man, and Teresa (née Middleton), a Yorta Yorta woman. Aunty Marg was the eldest of four daughters.

Margaret Tucker Hostel strives to promote independence through life skill development, education, work and training opportunities to encourage confidence in young women to reach their full potential.
